    Services for William "Bill" Altman Dowdy, Sr., 88, of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, March 15, at 2:30 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Carter officiating.

    Burial will follow at Bascom Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

    Mr. Dowdy passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 in Tyler.

    He was born December 2, 1927 to James Clayton, Sr. and Alice Canada Dowdy in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

    Bill was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church. He graduated from Tyler High School in 1944 and Tyler Junior College. Bill was in the Navy from 1945 to 1951. He was employed as a Brick Mason/Builder and he belonged to the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Union, Local 5.

    Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jack Dowdy; sister, Christine Lowrey.

    He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 65 years, Mable Jean Yancy Dowdy; children, William A. Dowdy, Jr. and wife Nancy, Alicia Dowdy Brown and husband Matthew; grandchildren, William Dowdy, III, Michelle Dowdy Oliver, Cody Dowdy, Elizabeth Brown and Andrew Brown; great-grandchildren, Kaylen, Jax, Hunter, Jasen, Cooper and Kendall Brooke; brother, James (Jim) Dowdy, Jr. and wife Gloria; sister, JoAnn Gordon and husband Jay.

    Honorary pallbearers will be The Disciples Sunday School Class, Colonial Hills Baptist Church.

    Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to service from 1:30 - 2:30 PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
