    Ernest "Richard" Sloan

    Ernest Richard Sloan, 72, of Tyler, passed away on March 7, 2016 after a short battle with advanced Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Tyler, Texas to the late Ernest Melvin and Sudie Elizabeth Sloan in January of 1944. He is survived by his loving wife Betty Johns Sloan of Tyler, son Jamie L. Sloan of Dallas, sister and husband Rebecca Wilder Lovil and Mike Lovil of Tyler, brother-in-law and wife Robert and Jill Johns of Paris, as well as aunt’s Louise Emmons of Tyler and Robbie June Brown of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Also, Jeremy and Brooke Wilder of Tyler, and children Brynn, Blake and Barrett; Brad and Julie Drake of Paris, and son’s Kyler, Kollin and Klayton; Jeff Johns of Paris, and son Cody.

    Richard was a long time Tyler resident having worked and partnered over 50 years at National Homes, Zimmerman Sign Company and Federal Heath Sign Company. He was also a devoted member and treasurer of Grace Chapel in Tyler. He loved spending time with his friends playing dominoes and cards, as well as dining out and travelling with his wife Betty. Richard was also a huge Texas Christian University football fan, and enjoyed watching and keeping up with the All Saints Episcopal School sports teams. He also loved and adored his grand-dogs Jinx, Parker and Bandit.

    Pallbearers will be Jeremy Wilder, Wayne Ellison, Dave Shaffer, David Melton, Jerry Murphy, Jim Gee and Clay Wagner.

    Honorary Pallbearers will be Bernie Beam, Jerb Melton and Bill Burton.

    The family welcomes friends on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Stewart Funeral Home in Tyler from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The service will be Friday, March 11, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Maddox and Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Private burial will be at Williams Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests making a donation to the general scholarship fund at All Saints Episcopal School in Tyler to further the education and ministry to children in East Texas, 2695 SSW Loop 323, Tyler, TX 75701, show "general scholarship fund" on memo line.
