    Charles "Charlie" Ray West

    Services for Charles Ray West, 85, of Tyler, will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. Rev. Mike Mizell and Rev. Aaron Turner will officiate under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

    Mr. West passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in Tyler.

    He was born March 12, 1931 in Cleburne, Texas to Jessie Homer and Ophelia Vossler West.

    Charlie graduated from Cleburne High School and Weatherford Jr. College. He served in the Navy from 1954 -1958 and served in the Korean War. He married the love of his life in 1963.

    From 1980 -1993, Charlie was the owner of Charlie West Motors in Hillsboro, TX. He enjoyed Little League and was a coach as well as a Bible teacher for 15 years. At Emmanuel Baptist Church and Nolan Riverroad Baptist Church, he was the Senior Adult Ministry Director. Charlie loved fishing and some of his fondest memories were times spent fishing with Buck and Pat McCall. He also loved his Morky dog, Tiger. Charlie also enjoyed going to church, the lake, reading the Bible and singing gospel.

    Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; son, Phillip West; sister, Martha West; and a twin brother, Delmar Charles West, who died at birth.

    He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 53 years, Mary Clark West; children Gregory Charles West and wife Vickie of Brazos Point, TX, Marche Ann Mann of Ft. Worth, TX, Phyllis Marie Offerman and husband Dan of New Braunsfel, TX; step-son, Randy Peterson and wife Susie of Henderson, TX; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters Shirley Greene and husband Joe of Alvarado, TX and Linda Davis and husband George of Rio Vista, TX; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
