    Robert L. "Bob" Harrison

    Robert L. "Bob" Harrison was born August 8, 1937 in Stamford, Texas, the son of the late Robert L. Harrison, Sr. and Vesta Baker Harrison. Bob was a faithful servant of his Lord, lifetime resident of Stamford, loyal supporter of the Stamford Bulldogs, loving husband, father, grandfather, and good friend to many. Bob was the gracious age of 78 years, 5 months, and 26 days when he departed for heaven on Thursday, February 4, 2016.

    Bob Harrison was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of ‘55. He married the love of his life, Barbara Foreman on December 29, 1962 in Spur, Texas. He attended and graduated from Oklahoma University with a Business Degree and while there he played football for OU. In 1958, Bob was voted Lineman of the Year by the UPI and had an outstanding career as a high school and collegiate football player, only having 5 losses during his High School and College years. While in OU, he was awarded the title of All American Center and was voted into the Texas High School Hall of Fame in 1970. Bob was a 7th place contender for the famous Heisman Trophy. After graduation from OU, Bob played in the National Football League for 9 years, including 6 years with the San Francisco 49er’s, 2 years with the Philadelphia Eagles, and 1 year for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Not only did Bob succeed as a professional athlete, he was a founding member of the first Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at Oklahoma University. Bob previously served on the Stamford City Council, Stamford School Board and the Farmers Cooperative Gin. After retiring, Bob "Hoggie Man" - the nickname that students and the Stamford Community referred to him by- could often be found on the sidelines of football practices, watching, encouraging and cheering on his beloved Stamford Bulldogs. He was a faithful member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, serving in various capacities in his lifetime. Bob also was a member of the Emmaus Community, participating in numerous Walks to Emmaus. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

    Bob Harrison was many things to many people, and will truly be missed by all that knew, loved and respected him.

    Bob’s parents and a brother in law, Alan Grubb preceded him in death.

    Loving family left to cherish Bob’s memory are his wife of 53 years, Barbara Harrison of Stamford; two sons and their wives, Scott and Amy Harrison of Lubbock, Todd and Tisha Harrison of Ozona; grandchildren, Gracie Harrison and Hayden Harrison of Lubbock; and one sister, Sara Grubb of Norman, Oklahoma.

    Funeral services honoring the life of Bob Harrison will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016 at St. John’s United Methodist Church with Pastor John Erwin officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home in Stamford. A time of visitation is scheduled for Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
