Jerry "Gayton" Stringfield, Sr.
Mr. Jerry "Gayton" Stringfield, Sr., 78, of Palestine passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, in Palestine, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 2 pm Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ron Sloan officiating.
Gayton was born September 30, 1937, in Poynor, Texas where he graduated high school. He went on to serve our country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967. After he was discharged from the U.S. Army, he came home to marry the love of his life, Judy Henry Stringfield. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 1999 in Palestine, Texas where he was the Senior Electrician for 22 years. Gaytonâ€™s passion was always caring for people and making sure that he paid forward any help that he could. He loved his kids and his grandkids and spent his last few years spending time and enjoying their company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Stringfield; his mother and father, Wendell "Doc" and Jewel Stringfield; his brothers, Harrison and Buster Stringfield; and sisters, Nell Owens and Bonnie Bayless.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Gary Cotton; daughter, Shelley Lindsey and Tony Fitzgerald; son, Jerry Gayton "Bubba" Stringfield, Jr.; step-daughter and son-in-law, Deeanna and Mark Wise; step-daughter, Paula Stulce; sister, Alyne Oden; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Bill McAllister; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sue Stringfield; sister, Janie Berry; grandchildren, Candiece and DeeJay Earley, Brandon and Jennifer Stringfield, Tyler and Presley Lindsey, Matthew Cotton, Courtney Lindsey, Johnathon Dowling, James Motl, Tony Marshall, Susanna Fernandez; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron Lindsey and Nick Earley.
Visitation and condolence calls will be received from 6-8 pm Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
