Miyoko A. Smith
Miyoko Smith, 90, of Nederland, Texas went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, January 7, 2016. She was born April 11, 1925, in Kisabe, Okinawa to Tamaka and Higa Asato. Her siblings included 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Miyoko was married to John H. Smith on August 11, 1947 at the Marine military headquarters in Okinawa. After her marriage, she made the voyage to the United States with her husband. They were happily married for 53 years. She faithfully fulfilled all requirements to become a certified, legal United States Citizen, on April 28, 1955.
Miyoko was a dedicated wife and loving mother. She was an astute homemaker, providing all of the domestic, household duties. Once her daughters entered junior high school, she was employed as a cook at several local restaurants. She was a peaceful, sincere and loving person. She was kind and had many friends who loved her very much. It was always her will to provide joy and love to everyone she encountered.
Miyoko was preceded in death by her parents, Tamaka and Higa Asato of Kisabe, Okinawa and her husband, John H. Smith of Nederland, Texas. She is survived by her two daughters Elaine Addison and her husband Tracy of Beaumont, and Vi Holliday of Nederland; one grandchild Toby Firmin of Austin; brothers Tamashin Asato, Tamayas Asato, Tamage Asato; sisters Fumiko Chine, and Yoskiko Araski, all of Okinawa.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, January 11, 2016, at Melanconâ€™s Funeral Home in Nederland with Darrell Segura officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
