She was born in Golden, Texas on March 27, 1919 to the late Walter Chester and Edith (Lehnis) Patrick. Mrs. Nelson was a longtime resident of Lindale and was a member of the Dover Baptist Church. Growing up in East Texas, she flourished and took on various responsibilities at an early age. As a daughter she cared for her mother-in-law and her mother. As a sister she took the responsibility of shepherding her siblings when her assistance was needed. As a wife and mother she served her family faithfully with encouragement every step of the way, always mindful of "training up a child in the way he/she should go." Having accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour, she knew the importance of following Jesus by serving others. Other roles she filled were farm manager/bookkeeper, Dillard’s Bookstore manager, Sunday School Teacher, VBS teacher/director, member of the Lindale Garden Club, Eastern Star Worthy Matron, and hostess extraordinaire. The door to her home was always open to one and all with delicious food beautifully prepared welcoming many to come and dine. Mrs. Nelson is preceded in death by her parents, husband, O.L. Nelson in 2000, eight siblings, and son-in-law, Kyle Hathcox. She is survived by daughter, Sandra Nelson Hathcox of Aiken, South Carolina; son, Michael Wayne Nelson of Lindale; 3 grandchildren, Susie Hathcox King and husband, Bill; Alan Hathcox and wife, Missy; and Paton Hathcox and wife, Brandy; 11 great grandchildren, Reese, Sophie, Craver, Eliza, Sandi, Turner, Banks, Wesley, Noah, Lucy, and Joe; two sisters, Chesteen Patrick Hughes of Mineola; and Betty Patrick Westbrook of Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Hathcox, Paton Hathcox, Larry Hughes, Ronald Gene Hughes, Paul Ray Measles, Darwin Patrick, Jack Walter Patrick, Terry Woods. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2:00 PM at the Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale. The verse that Mrs. Nelson lived her life by was Colossians 3:23 "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International, your local Crisis Pregnancy Center, or Dover Baptist Church.
