In Loving Memory of
RAWLINSON, Myra Louise Hassell was born September 3, 1923 in Rusk, Texas to John Wesley and Leona (Huggins) Hassell and passed from this life on March 4, 2016.
In 1941 Myra graduated from Draughn's Business College and went to Dallas in search of work. Her first job paid $5 per week. On March 8, 1942 she married the love of her life, her husband of nearly 74 years, Joe F. Rawlinson, at Adams Chapel Methodist Church in Bulah, TX. In 1947 Myra and Joe moved to Lancaster, TX where they still live today.
During World War II she served her country in the Army Signal Corps, Civilian Unit, and was the Commanderâ€™s Secretary for the 8th Service Command in Dallas, TX. Myra had many interesting and varied employment positions but found her joy when she went to work as Executive Secretary to Mr. "Hap" Goodman of Goodman Paper Products, retiring after 23 years.
Myra was an active member of Adams Chapel Methodist Church in the Bulah Community of East Texas and the First United Methodist Church of Lancaster, TX.
Myra and Joe continued to raise cattle on the land she grew up on in Bulah, TX. The farm, with its legacy of hard work and the love of the land, is one of her greatest gifts to her family. She and Joe raised their children and grandchildren in a family filled with love and guided by a strong faith in the Lord.
Myra is survived by her husband, Joe F. Rawlinson; daughter, Diana Gayle May & partner Laura Doscher; son, Joe "Chip" Rawlinson, Jr. & wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Joshua May & fiancé Aimee Rea, Mika Earthspirit & husband Matthew, Clay Rawlinson, and Drew Rawlinson; brother, John Herbert Hassell & wife Retha; sisters, Dorothy Lenora Hassell and Bettie Sue Miller & husband Royce; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Myra was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Elaina Jo, and her sister Leona Frances Jorgensen & husband Dewayne.
