Kathleen M. Bowen
Kathleen M. Bowen, 78, of Jacksboro, Texas (formerly of San Antonio) passed away on January 13, 2016.
She was born on October 12, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois. Preceded in death by her parents James J. Maloney and Jean M. (Bethel) Maloney of Dallas, Texas; her husband of 54 and a half years John W. Bowen.
Kathleen graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas in 1955. She went on to attend the University of Texas in Austin where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She studied Elementary Education for two years. Kathleen then met "the love of her life", John Bowen. They married on August 31, 1957. John's grandfather Rev. W.A. Bowen officiated the wedding in Kathleen's family home in Dallas, Texas.
Kathleen worked for the Child Welfare Agency through the State of Texas in Austin and then at the Trinity University Bookstore in San Antonio where they settled upon John's graduation from UTA. Kathleen was a people person, caring, loving, funny and had the greatest laugh ever! She loved Bridge! She belonged to the Windcrest Women's Bridge Club, their Garden Club, Tennis Club, the Women's Club and more bridge clubs along with such great and wonderful friends! For over 20 years she was very involved in Fiesta Night in Old San Antonio, she and a great friend ran the English Apple Dumpling Booth! What a fantastic time it was from year to year! Kathleen was also a huge fan of the beach; she loved the water, walks on the beach, LOVED to fish and play bridge with her South Padre Babes each year!!! She loved to have fun with her friends.
She is survived by her family that she absolutely loved and adored; daughter and son-in-law Laura and Ron Fairchild of Jacksboro; grandsons Matthew and Patrick Hollaway of San Antonio; Laird Fairchild of Southlake; granddaughter Shannon Fairchild and husband Tom Randell of London, England; great-grandchildren Remington and Spencer Fairchild, Lily and George Randell; sister Camilla Frederick of Merritt Island, Florida; sister-in-law Margaret Ann Bowen of Austin; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday February 20, 2016 at 10:45 am at Christian Missions Church in Jacksboro, Texas. Pastor Eugene Weldon will officiate. All family and friends will be treated to a lovely lunch immediately following the service. We invite all!
