    HITCHCOCK – Mrs. Marie Istre passed from this life Friday morning, May 15, 2015, in Santa Fe.

    Born October 16, 1933 in Shell Beach, Louisiana, Marie had been a resident of Hitchcock since 1957, previously of Galveston. Marie had been the owner and operator of Grace Memorial Park Cemetery from 1960-1987. She was a thirty year member of the American National Cemetery Association and Texas Cemetery Association and was awarded the American Cemetery Association Quarter Century Member Certificate of Honor in 1986. She was a past member and secretary of the Hitchcock Lioness Club and a member of the original Alta Loma Chamber of Commerce. After her retirement from the cemetery she served many years as the bookkeeper at Hayes Funeral Home and was currently the co-owner of Grace Memorial Park Crematory. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and crafts.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton Joseph and Bertha (Courts) Young; husband, Emile Istre; grandson, Jason Little; son-in-law, Steve Little; sisters, Marjorie Theriot and Gloria Fontenot.

    Survivors include her sons, Ron Istre and wife, Pam of Santa Fe, Dennis Emile Istre and wife, Beth of Lykens, PA; daughters, Jackie Little of Santa Fe, Tammy Goodwin and husband, James of Portland, OR; brother, Kenneth Lee Young and wife, Mary of Iowa, LA; grandchildren, Stacey Hollan (Ed), Sheri Richards (Cassidy), Amber Madden (Britt), Jennifer Spruell (Jeremy), Dennis Emile Istre, Jr. (Gretchen), Chastidy Moser (Rick) and Alyssa Goodwin; 9 great-grandchildren and her special friends, Dr. Warren T. Longmire, Jr. and wife, Terry of Hitchcock and Jim Hayes of Santa Fe.

    Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. Sunday at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.

    Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2015, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Alan Splawn officiating.

    Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Marie’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
