    SANTA FE - Mrs. Barbara Brister passed from this life Tuesday afternoon, May 5, 2015, in Dickinson.

    Born June 18, 1930 in Galveston, TX, Mrs. Brister was raised in Port Bolivar but had been a resident of Santa Fe for the past 53 years. Barbara worked as a nurse for 25 years. Barbara was a founding member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church as well as the Mae S. Bruce Library and HIS Ministries where she served her community for over 20 years as a volunteer. She served as Worthy Matron for the Alvin Chapter #15 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a very giving person who always took care of other people and had a servant’s heart. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and painting.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew M. and Verdia N. (McGee) Johnson and brother, Andrew Johnson, Jr.

    Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years Augustus Raford Brister; sons; Louis E. “Tim” Hardy and wife, Ann of Bryan; Dale L. Hardy and wife, Suesie of League City; Barry D. Hardy and wife, Pat of League City; Craig W. Hardy and wife, June of Santa Fe; Raford A. Brister of Manila, Philippines; Richard C. Brister and wife, Tammy of Rochester, NY; Toby M. Brister of Austin; daughter, Tracy L. Brister of El Paso; sisters, Paula Maxey of Algoa; Pauline Bouse of Angleton; Cora Beth Evans of Devers; many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

    Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Port Bolivar Cemetery in Port Bolivar, TX, under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway Six, (409) 925-3501, with Reverend Steven Diaz officiating

    A celebration of her life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Santa Fe.

    Mrs. Brister’s family would like to encourage donations in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6055 South Loop East, Houston, TX 77087.
