SANTA FE - Mr. B.L. “Jack” Carpenter, Jr. passed from this life Sunday morning, April 26, 2015, in Webster.
Born May 5, 1930 in Galveston, TX, Mr. Carpenter had lived in Santa Fe since 1958, previously of LaMarque, Bellville and Galveston. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad before and after going into the Navy, before beginning his career as a pipefitter, working for Monsanto for 29 years. Jack was a member of the Pipefitters Union Local #211, Santa Fe Little League, the Youth Rodeo Association, The Galveston County Fair and Rodeo Association, where he was instrumental in organizing and starting the bar-b-q cook-offs, a life member of The Houston Fair and Livestock Association, Santa Fe FFA Booster Club, which he helped start, and The VFW Post #5400. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bluford Louise “Jack” Carpenter, Sr. and Madelyn Lolly (Page) Carpenter Smith; wife, Florine Josephine (Zbranek) Carpenter; brother, Ken Smith and daughter, Vicki Lynn Carpenter.
Survivors include his sons, Gary Alan Carpenter and wife, Kathy, Terry Lee Carpenter and wife, Norma; daughter, Lynda Kay Wagner and husband, Jerry all of Santa Fe; brother and sister-in-law Royce and Patsy Zbranek; grandchildren, Melissa and Tim Johnson, Jeremy Carpenter, Autumn and Anthony Jimenez, Kelli and Jason Hefner, Katie and Travis Ewing, Erin Carpenter; great grandchildren, Keegan, Cara, Kaitlyn, Derick, Madilyn, Rylan, Colton, Kinley, Mollie; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Reverend John Kappe officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Carpenter, Travis Ewing, Jason Hefner, Anthony Jimenez, Tim Johnson and Devon Worthy. Honorary bearers will be Darryl and David Zbranek.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.
