    Alfred H. Wendel, 84, of Hillje, passed away March 1, 2016. He was born on May 29, 1931 in Hillje to the late Anton Lewis and Annie Moeller Wendel. He served in the Texas National Guard in administration at the Armory in El Campo for 40 years He retired as Sergeant First Class. He was also a member of Sons of Herrmann.

    He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine Poncik Wendel of Hillje; daughters; Nancy Routh and husband John of Austin and Diane Wendel of Florida; son, Jeff Wendel and wife LaTishia of Cypress; son-in-law, Paul Blinka; grandchildren, David Blinka and wife Alicia, Karissa Bolin and husband Brennan, Curtis Wendel and wife Morgan, Josh Wendel, Eric Wendel and Michael Routh; great-grandchild, Avery Germany; sisters, Lucille Michna of Louise and Lillian Pavlu of Garwood; brother, Edward Wendel of Hillje and special caregiver and sister-in-law Denise Poncik.

    Alfred was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Gayle Blinka.

    Visitation begins 2 pm Thursday, March 3 at Triska Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 6 pm. Funeral Mass begins 10 am Friday, March 4 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Hillje with Rev. Clement Quainoo officiating. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 251.

    Pallbearers are grandsons David Blinka, Michael Routh, Curtis Wendel, Josh Wendel, Eric Wendel and nephew Mark Wendel.

    Memorial donations in honor of Alfred may be made to St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Focus on the Family (www.focusonthefamily.com), or your local Respect Life program.
