In Loving Memory of
Dorothy H. Buckley
Dorothy "Dot" H. Buckley was set free of physical challenges and entered the gates of heaven on Monday, March 7, 2016. Dot was born on May 2, 1925 in Sinton, Texas to Mary Lucinda (O’Brien) and James Earle Hutchins. She was raised in Yoakum, Texas by her adoptive parents Claude and Elizabeth Tolbert.
She is now happily reunited with her family and loved ones who went before her including her sister, Thelma Johnson and brothers Charles Hutchins and Otho Tolbert, along with her husband of 21 years Wilson Buckley, her loving companion Johnny Watson, and all of her beloved pets.
She is survived by her only daughter, Susan Bonham, and son-in-law Joe of Anchorage, Alaska, whom she loved very much; also surviving are her nieces Libby Foster (Ronnie) and Sherry Bell (Randy) and great nieces and nephews.
She was surrounded by three wonderful, loving caregivers at the end of her life â€" Blanca Palacios, Pat Nelson and Mary Jean Arangua. We thank you and so does Dot for your love, compassion and caring ways.
During her working years, she was a devoted office manager for Sam Susser and was very proud of making Secretary of the Year 1954 for the Coastal Bend. After returning from living in Chile, she went to work for Don Holden Investments.
Dot was an active volunteer in our community and loved helping those around her. She was an excellent speaker, educator and counselor. Some of the many ways she dedicated her time was as a Board Member and educator on abuse at the Coastal Bend Women’s Shelter, counseling and group work at Charter Hospital and in private practice. She volunteered at Memorial and Spohn Hospitals, and taught adult classes at Del Mar College.
Her faith was very important to her and Dot was an inspiration to many. She was a member of South Shore Christian Church where she was a Bible School Teacher and elder. For 20 years, she taught A Course in Miracles, a Spiritual Psychology class that enriched the lives of many through love and forgiveness, bringing them closer to God.
Dot loved entertaining her many special friends who were like family to her. Achieving her lifelong dreams to see the whole planet, she had realized those dreams by traveling extensively around the world.
Even animals were drawn to her with her deep love and concern for them. Dot was a past investigator of abused and mistreated animals. For this reason we ask, in lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dot’s name to the Gulf Coast Humane Society, 3118 Cabaniss Rd., Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Seaside Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Dot’s life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.
