Mrs. Norma "Pat" Powell
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Norma Jean "Pat" Mayfield Powell, 80, of Old Panola Community will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Panola Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Kyle Mosier and Rev. Aaron Bequette officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home. Mrs. Powell died February 9, 2016 at her home in Old Panola.
Mrs. Norma Jean "Pat" Mayfield Powell was born November 13, 1935 in the Old Panola Community of Panola County, Texas. She was one of five children born to the marriage of Norman M. and Alma Bertie Gates Mayfield. Pat was raised in the Old Panola Community and schooled in Longstreet graduating with the class of 1953. She married her beloved husband of over 50 years, Jimmy Owen Powell, March 19, 1954. Together they farmed and ranched while raising their family. Fondly known as Mrs. Pat, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and being with her family. She wanted her home life to be a safe haven covered in prayer and peace for all who came into her home. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jimmy, sister, Maxine Mayfield, brothers, Herbert and Earl Mayfield. Mrs. Powell is survived by her son, Jeffery Bryan Powell and wife Pam, and daughter, Denese Powell all of Old Panola, sisters, Norris Nackley of Virginia and Alma Wells of Old Panola, grandchildren, Brandy Nicole Hardie and husband Josh, Melissa Westbrook and husband Will and Jason Briery, great grandchildren, Cameron and Allison Hardie, Alaina and Brant Baker, Addison Westbrook, Bradie Jo and IsaBella Briery, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Special thanks to the staff and nurses at Briarcliff and to the Heartsway Hospice team for the tender loving care they both provide.
Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Hardie, Will Westbrook, Jason Briery, Greg Almeida, Jon Almeida, Clayton Eubanks, honorary bearers will be, Cameron Hardie and Brant Baker.
