Mr. E. V. Cureton
Funeral services for Mr. E.V. Cureton, 92, of Carthage, Texas will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Burial will follow in the Centennial Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1-2:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Cureton passed away February 15, 2016 in Carthage.
Mr. Elias Varanos "E.V." Cureton, Jr. was born January 20, 1924 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was the oldest of two children born to Elias Varanos and Willa Mae Hammond Cureton, Sr. Mr. Cureton graduated from Fair park High School in Shreveport with the class of 1942. E.V. was an Aviation Engineer while serving in the United States Air Force during World War II. Mr. Cureton worked for many years as a mechanic for Southern Pacific Railroad and later for Texas Utilities and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage. He is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Shirley Root Cureton and Jimmie Lee Peace Cureton; son, Timmy Cureton; step-daughter, Shelia Schriewer; brother, Marvin Cureton.
Mr. Cureton is survived by numerous relatives and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Schriewer, Chase Schriewer, Sammy Peace, Duane Peace, Jason Peace and Tracy Peace. Honorary pallbearers will be the Therapy Department Staff at Briarcliff.
