    Graveside services for Mr. Billy Joe Williams, 85, of Gary, Texas will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Mt. Bethel Cemetery in Gary, Texas with Mrs. Linda Scarbrough officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Williams passed away February 2, 2016 in Carthage.

    Mr. Billy Joe Williams was born March 7, 1930 in Hewam, Oklahoma. He was one of seven children born to Dalton Elmore and Donia Odesia Williams and graduated high school in Sutter, CA. Mr. Williams was a fruit peddler and was known as "The Fruit Man" in the Dallas area. He had a small retail shop in Timpson and later operated a fruit stand on West Panola in Carthage for many years. Mr. Williams was a boxer while serving his country in the United States Navy, was a member of the Full Gospel Little Pentecostal Church in Gary and loved to play his harmonica for his grandkids and others. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 10 years, Ruth Williams.

    Mr. Williams is survived by his sons, David Williams and wife Kathy of Beckville, Jody Castle and wife Sandra of Longview; daughters, Sonya Gulley of Gary, Montana Jones of Gary; five brothers; one half-brother; one sister; two step-sisters; one half-sister; twenty grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
