    Rae Cage Wiley

    Rae Cage Wiley

    7 September 1923 - 7 December 2015

Stella Rae Cage was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and described her childhood self as a tomboy. While living in Austin in the last year of World War II, she met Don Wiley, a handsome Marine, and married him a few months later in Pensacola, Florida. In their life together they lived in Texas, Louisiana, New Jersey, and Connecticut. She accepted the many cross-country moves with grace and made friends wherever she and Don settled. It was her nature to focus on others, whether her children or friends or the patients in the many hospitals where she volunteered as a pink lady. She had a talent for meeting strangers as if they were lost friends and never passed a child of any age without smiling and speaking to them. She downplayed her considerable artistic talent, enjoyed golf from her forties into her eighties, and always had a book within reach. Her cheerful nature abandoned her only when playing hearts, at which time no one, including grandchildren, escaped her ruthless drive to win. Rae's sweet spirit will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Donald Wiley, and her brothers Claron Cage and Reuben W. Cage, both of Blanco, Texas.

Her children carry on in her good stead: Pat Webb and her partner Don Bowman of Victoria, Texas; Bill Wiley and his wife Linda of Bryan, Texas; Pam Wiley of Bryan; Kelly Groves and her husband John of El Paso. Rae delighted in her eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Rae’s life will be held Saturday, 19 December 2015, beginning at 1 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church located at 408 E. 24th Street, Bryan, Texas. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial gifts to Hospice Brazos Valley at 502 W. 26th St., Bryan, Texas 77803.
