Petra was born on January 24, 1926, to Antonio Maldonado and Dolores Perez Maldonado in Calvert, Texas. She was retired from Hy-Line Hatchery after a 25 year career, but her first and most important career was as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Petra was an active, long-time member of Santa Teresa Catholic Church. She was proud to be member of the Guadalupanas, a group that provided meals and other help to families during times of need. She had a green thumb and always had fresh flowers. Petra loved preparing fresh meals for anyone who came to visit. When she went to visit family, she sometimes took over that kitchen as well.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jesus Saragosa; son, Manuel Saragosa; parents, Antonio and Dolores Maldonado; grandson, Samuel Ramirez; and great-grandson, Michael Ramsey Dean Saragosa.
Petra leaves behind her children, Jesse Saragosa, Janie Ramirez and husband Raymond, Eddie Saragosa and wife Viola, Yolanda Castillo and husband Ignacio, and David Saragosa and wife Pauline; siblings, Marcelo Maldonado, Lupita Espino, Mary Moreno, Raymond Maldonado, and Jesse Maldonado; fifteen grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by many friends, neighbors, and fellow church members.
Petra’s family would like to offer a special thank you to the nurses and other staff of St. Joseph Hospital, Traditions Healthcare and Hospice, and Lampstand Nursing and Rehabilitation, along with special gratitude to her son, Jesse Saragosa, for his exceptional, loving care for his mother.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Santa Teresa Catholic Church.
