In Loving Memory of
Daisy Robena Thomas
Daisy Robena "Beanie" Thomas
Daisy Robena Deskin Thomas, a faithful, loving, compassionate, and Godly woman passed away on February 16, 2016, at age 84.
Born on September 14, 1931, to George Lee Deskin and Effie "Hazel" Smith Deskin, Robena arrived while her father was helping to build the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The Deskins moved around the country following the construction industry from Dallas to Baytown to Corpus Christi to Houston, then to Englewood, Colorado. Robena always remembered that even though she and her brothers, James Lee Deskin and George Dwayne Deskin, were born during the latter part of the depression, they never felt like they lacked for anything because they were rich in their family’s abounding love for one another.
After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School and just two weeks shy of her seventeenth birthday, Robena moved to Houston to attend Memorial Hermann Nursing School, from which she graduated in 1951. She went to work for Dr. Wilson where through a mutual friend she met her future husband, Heston Dee Thomas. They were married on August 19, 1955 at Dr. Wilson’s home. After returning to Houston from College Station in 1960, they enjoyed nineteen wonderful years raising their four oldest children. Then in 1979, Robena and Heston moved to the family ranch that they built together. In 1992, the Lord blessed Robena and Heston with beautiful twin girls Rachel and Sarah. The Thomas family enjoyed playing endless rounds of 42, going hunting and fishing (as she and Heston did on their first date), riding horses and making memories. Robena always enjoyed having the family all together laughing, cutting up and just being together. She made sure there was always an abundance of Wal-Mart chocolate cake with whipped icing, Diet Dr. Pepper, delicious food and lots of love.
In addition, throughout the years due to their compassion and love for others, Robena and Heston welcomed over twenty people into their home for however long they needed because, to the Thomas family, they were family.
In 2006, Robena and her family moved to Bryan to be closer to family. Robena loved being a part of the Aggie community and rooting for the Aggies, rain or shine.
Robena’s love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was reflected in the way she treated others. Her husband often said that she would "light up a room when she entered it", and he wasn’t the only person who noticedâ€"Robena’s beauty inside and out demonstrated her strong faith in Christ to many. Robena refused to judge others and instead, chose to reach out in compassion to all of God’s children. Additionally, she served as the organist for Weslow Revival Center for 15 years, as well as Little Flock Baptist Church in Jewett for 18 years. In truth, "She touched so many people’s lives when they needed it the most, she was our angel on Earth."
Robena is survived by her son Heston Thomas and wife Patsy of Friendswood, daughter Terri Angonia and husband Don of Bryan, son David Thomas and wife Donna of Donie, and daughters Rachel Thomas and Sarah Thomas of Bryan. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, including Heston "Trace" Thomas III, Kelsey Thomas, Dominic Angonia and fiancé Melissa Winn, Ashley Seelig and husband Dustin, Brooke Angonia, Joshua Lewis and wife Kayla, Pete Commander, Calvin Thomas and wife Lisa, Tiffany Thomas and fiancé Dakota Patterson and Savanna Thomas; great-grandchildren Braddock Lewis and Larami Gauntt and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Robena is preceded in death by her parents George and Hazel Deskin, husband Heston Dee Thomas, daughter Robin Thomas, and great-granddaughter Eden Lewis.
