In Loving Memory of
Kathryn Louise Stephenson
Our mother, Kathryn Louise Herring Stephenson, died the evening of December 22, 2015. She celebrated her 95th birthday on December 16. One week later she went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; her beloved RC, husband of 52 plus years; her daughter Kathy; her grandson and his wife, Tommy and Susie Jacomini and their beautiful children, Thomas and ViVi; her brother, Garrett Herring, Jr; her mother and father, Stella and Garrett Herring; in addition to numerous other family members and close friends. What a homecoming that must have been!
She was many things to usâ€"our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, mother-in-law, our best friend. If you knew her, you knew exactly what we knewâ€"she was a precious, sweet, kind, beautiful lady that lived her life to the fullestâ€"all 95 years!
Kathryn was born in Goose Creek, Texas on December 16, 1920. Her parents were pioneer business people of Goose Creek in those early days. They owned and operated Herring Drug Store on Texas Avenue. She was a Robert E. Lee High School graduate.
Kathryn Herring and RC Stephenson were high school sweethearts and married in 1937. They had five girls, Beverly, Steffani, Kathy, Martha Lou, and Jancy. While supporting him in their grocery business, Commerce Food Market, and later the UtoteM and RCs convenience stores, she dedicated much of her life to being a wife, mother and homemaker. She later became a real estate agent.
Kathryn was a devoted Christian. As a long-time member of the First Christian Church, her church family held a special place in her heart. She and RC were active members of the Jaycees and Jaycettes, in addition to the Goose Creek Country Club where she was a member of the Ladies Association. She became a member of the Thursday Forum Ladies Club in the 1940’s and remained active until shortly before she died. Kathryn was also a Hospice Volunteer. She regularly played bridge with groups of good friends for many years.
We cannot begin to express how thankful we are to Donna Woodrome, Christi Robertson, Shannon Owens, Mabell Salazar, Leah Hinton, Cindy Hampton, and Emily Satterwhite of Humble Care for their wonderful gift of love and caring for our mother. They have become our good friends over the last six years, and we will continue to cherish and maintain these friendships.
Survivors include Beverly and Tommy Jacomini; Steffani and Jerry Box; Martha Lou and Kyle Fullick, and Jancy and Don Ervin. Surviving grandchildren include Joanie Herring and husband Laffy, Kathy Masterson and husband Harry; Susan Craig and husband Russell; Lauri Donnelly; Connie Dando and husband Patrick; Robert Fullick and wife Laura; Clay Fullick and wife Cali; Patrick Ervin and wife Tori; and Michael Ervin and wife Julia. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Following a private, family graveside service, there will be a celebration of Kathryn's life for family and guests. Sons-in-law and grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
Memorial donations made to the First Christian Church, 201 Forrest St., Baytown 77520, would be a much appreciated way to celebrate her love for her church, or to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston 77030, who provided excellent care for her over the past year. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Crespo & Jirrels Funeral and Cremation Services.
We will miss our mother and we will always cherish the gift of the years we spent with her. Her homecoming at this special time of year gives new meaning to the song, "I’ll be Home for Christmas."
