Gilbert Zamora, Sr.
Gilbert Zamora, Sr. was called to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 31, 2015.
Gilbert Zamora, Sr. was born March 13, 1925 in Morrill, Nebraska. He was the 4th of 13 children born to Fidela & H.O. Zamora. He attended school in Morrill, Nebraska and worked on his father's farm before joining the U.S. Army. He married Mary Elizondo on November 27, 1945 in Torrington, Wyoming. Gilbert served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947, stationed at Panama City, Panama where he served in the Artillery and received the WWII Victory Medal. He continued his service in the Texas National Guards from 1973 to 1984 retiring as a 1st Lieutenant. He joined the American Legion Post 479, Uvalde, TX in 1949 where he served 2nd Vice Commander and Historian. Gilbert joined the Knights of Columbus in 1981. He received 1st degree in 1981, 2nd and 3rd degree in 1982 and became a 4th degree Knight in 1983. Gilbert and his wife Mary, were both active members of the Sacred Heart Church and the community of Uvalde, Texas.
Gilbert owned his own refrigeration business in Uvalde, Texas before retiring. He loved playing cards, dominos and listening to music. He was always tinkering on something in his garage or tending to his yard and garden. Gilbert was a proud father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his wife Mary E. Zamora. He is survived by his two children, Gilbert Ray Zamora, Jr. of Round Rock, TX and Diane Pedersen and husband Joe Hernandez of Pflugerville, TX; five grandchildren Yvonne (Bonnie) Zamora of Cedar Park, TX, Yvette Zamora and Catherine of Robstown, TX, Gilbert (Trey) Zamora III and wife Kristen of Round Rock, TX, Amy Michelle Hernandez and husband Michael of Corpus Christi, TX and John De Leon and wife Vicki of Cedar Park, TX; Five Great-Grandchildren Brandt Zamora, Xavier Garcia, Jade Nagase, Nicholas De Leon and Sofia De Leon; one Great-Great Grandchild Abigail Zamora; brother, Bennie Zamora and wife Connie of Glendale, AZ; sisters Vera Hernandez of Los Vegas, NV and Bernadette Doucet and husband Dan of Niceville, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.
Liturgy of deceased service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 408 Ft. Clark Road, Uvalde, TX. at 11:00AM Saturday November 7, 2015.
Reception from 1 to 3pm Saturday November 7, 2015 at Knights of Columbus Hall, 209 N. Grove Road Uvalde, TX.
A military graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio Texas on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 10:00am.
