Dawna Melanson Hanner
Dawna Melanso n Hanner, 68, passed away Thursday October 15, 2015 in Austin Texas. A Texas resident for more than 40years, she was born in Boston on June 4, 1947 and is the daughter of Patricia Neault and the late Frank Melanson. She is survived by her husband David Hanner, her sons Daniel Thompson and Scott Lee Thompson of Austin Texas and her two grandchildren Melissa Emily Thompson and Collin Thompson.
She was a sister to Kim Melanson of Natick MA, and her late brother Jeffery Melanson. Dawna was a graduate of Wayland High School and Graduated from Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing. A lifelong Registered Nurse, she started her distinguished career in New York City Hospitals and retired as a
Registered Nurse for the State of Texas. She won numerous national awards for going above and beyond for the healthcare of children in Texas. Dawna loved spending time with her family and especially with her two grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed Ann Rice vampire books and witch lore. Her
childhood was spent on Lake Cochituate, in Wayland,
Massachusetts, and this lead to a lifelong love of the water, settling in Austin, Texas with the lakes nearby and often vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico which she loved. She was an animal lover all her life, having had dogs, birds, and cats, with Peps, her cat being her constant companion in later years.
Her death was unexpected and she will be greatly missed. She is happy and she is in a good and amazing place now. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on November 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Austin-Peel & Son Funeral Home Inc, 607
